Total Knee Replacement

Supported by muscles, tendons, and ligaments and lined with cartilage, the knee is a hinge-like joint where the thighbone, shinbone, and kneecap meet. Degenerative joint disease, namely arthritis, an accident, or a knee deformity can compromise the knee, erode the cartilage, and create chronic knee pain. As the pain worsens, the knee stiffens, mobility becomes limited, and surgery may be necessary to correct the issue.

Total knee replacement surgery, or total knee arthroplasty, is a minimally invasive surgery designed to replace the painful joint with a knee prosthesis and restore movement. During surgery, damaged cartilage or arthritic bone surfaces are removed and the rest of the knee joint is replaced with metal and plastic materials to restore the integrity of the joint. Your surgeon will determine which surgical technique and implant are best suited for your medical condition.
