PRP Injection
Our blood consists of a liquid component known as plasma, in addition to red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets are what help the body form blood clots. They also consist of special proteins, known as growth factors, which help with our bodies to heal. Sometimes an injury or trauma requires a boost in healing.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a relatively new treatment method for several orthopaedic conditions such as muscle, ligament, and tendon injuries, arthritis and fractures. PRP is a high concentration of platelets and plasma, which contains 94% platelets (as opposed to 6% in normal blood) and 5 to 10 times the concentration of growth factors found in normal blood. Thus, PRP offers incredible healing properties. Administered directly into the affected area, PRP injections can relieve painful symptoms, promote faster healing and delay joint replacement surgeries.
