Minimally Invasive Bunionectomy

A bunion, also known as a hallux valgus, is an enlargement of bone and soft tissue that develops on the joint connecting the big toe to the foot, resulting in a painful malalignment of the big toe towards the other toes. A minimally invasive bunionectomy is a surgical procedure developed to correct a bunion deformity utilizing small incisions and instruments. More specifically, this outpatient procedure involves cutting the metatarsal bone, and shifting it into proper alignment, and then fixing it into place with pins or screws to maintain its correct position, all through those small incisions. The benefits of this type of surgery include faster recovery times, smaller scars, and less pain than a traditional bunionectomy.
