Anterior Hip Replacement

[BODY]
When a hip becomes damaged, causing severe hip pain, total hip replacement surgery (hip arthroplasty) may be recommended. This failing hip could be due to a myriad of issues that includes osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fracture, infection (osteomyelitis), tumor, loss of blood supply, or hip dysplasia. Of the two surgical approaches, the anterior approach, unlike the posterior approach, replaces your hip joint with an artificial one from the front of the hip (as opposed to the posterior approach, which is from behind or to the side of the hip). However, this approach is also used to replace hips with any type of damage, including during hip revision surgery (when a hip has previously been replaced.)

Cartilage cell transplantation, such as autologous chondrocyte implantation, is a technique whereby healthy cartilage cells from within your own body replace damaged cartilage cells, forming new cartilage in the affected area. There are variants to cartilage cell transplantation, but these procedures are recommended for young individuals with a single articular defect. It is usually performed on the knee joint but may also be used to treat the shoulder and ankle joints.
